Accessibility of Microsoft Whiteboard

Microsoft Whiteboard is a digital collaboration platform that provides a space for visual design and brainstorming. Whiteboard allows you to work in real time with others, making it ideal for teamwork. Whiteboard also has accessibility features to ensure that all users can participate and make full use of the platform. Taking accessibility into consideration when using the platform improves collaborative flows and everyone’s ability to participate.

Alternative text

  • Add alternative text to all elements that convey information. This includes images, patterns, lines, and GIFs.
  • Click on an element and select “Edit alt text”. The alt text for images can be found in the three-dot menu (…)

Contrast

  • Ensure that the table uses sufficient contrast between the text and the background (e.g. black text and white background).
  • You can edit the background in the settings in the top right corner of the table (Settings -> Format background).
  • You can edit the colour of the text by pressing on the text box or the pattern. Select “Text color picker” from the context menu to choose your text colour.

Text boxes, patterns and tabs

  • Avoid drawing, as drawn patterns and texts are not accessible.
  • Instead, use text boxes, patterns and notepads.
  • It is possible to edit the style of the text, but do not use the Handwritten style. Text formatted in this style is difficult to read.
